The Great Australasian Futurity Stakes - A Brief History written by Ross Wallace of Whangarei

This grand name was given by the Auckland Racing Pigeon Federation (ARPF) to a young bird race inaugurated in 1954. Today it is simply known as ‘the Futurity’ and it remains the premier young bird classic race in New Zealand. Over the last 50 years it has withstood the trials and tribulations of our sport and although now a smaller version of its original size, its results still command respect in the fancy.
